It ranks first because a small company can establish a no-cost baseline before paying for speed. The four prices are not interchangeable. One buys a do-it-yourself business system, one buys an integrated estimating plan, one funds a monthly takeoff operation, and one buys annual managed-takeoff capacity.
What does Yardbook include for $0?
Yardbook Starter lists lot measurement, estimates, a product catalog, scheduling, and routing at no subscription charge. From an estimate, invoice, or property record, the user loads an address, clicks points around an area, and saves the calculated quantity. Multiple areas can be drawn, and the measurement can be exported to PDF.
The workflow is useful because the quantity can remain attached to the property or estimate instead of being copied from a separate map. It is still a manual trace. QuoteIQ’s current plan table puts MapMeasure Pro on Beginner at $74.99 per month for two users. The product page says the user can load an address, draw an area on satellite imagery, and calculate square footage and linear footage. That makes QuoteIQ the more direct candidate when the same small team needs to measure, price, send, schedule, and invoice in one customer record.
Do not rely on a broad AI or measuring label. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the exact landscaping workflow: multiple turf zones, bed exclusions, perimeter edits, saved revisions, units, price-book connection, and the approved quantity after an estimate changes. The opened page does not publish a landscaping error tolerance or a method for proving one.
How is Beam AI priced?
Beam AI’s current pricing page starts done-for-you aerial-image takeoffs at $10,000 per year per trade, based on site acreage and service. It names landscaping, snow, paving, and striping and includes the Attentive.ai OnSite mobile app, bid-management tools, and support.
That replaces the $32-per-10-acre-site and $75-per-25-acre-site figures this article found on August 11. Those former bands should not be used for a new budget. The current page says licences are tailored to annual bid volume and does not publish a project allowance, per-site rate, acreage schedule, or overage price.
Ask for the included annual capacity, acreage and feature definitions, parallel-processing limit, turnaround, revisions, rush handling, and overage terms in writing. The page describes done-for-you takeoffs as delivered in 24–72 hours, but that remains a vendor claim rather than a measured result.
How is SiteRecon priced?
SiteRecon Growth costs $250 per month on monthly billing. Its page displays an annual option at $237.50 per month, a 5% reduction. Growth includes two creator seats, done-for-you takeoffs, a dedicated success manager, and $200 in takeoff credits. Teams is $400 per month and adds five creator seats, integrations and APIs, site-audit templates, and portfolio reporting.
Do not divide $200 by an assumed takeoff price. The public pricing page does not say how many acres, properties, or feature classes the included credits cover. Ask for the credit debit schedule, oversize-property rule, revision policy, minimum term, and onboarding charge in writing. SiteRecon says large-property and portfolio takeoffs commonly take 24–72 hours, depending on plan and size.
Why is image resolution not the same as measurement accuracy?
Four different questions are often collapsed into one word:
- Resolution: how much ground one pixel represents and which edges can be seen.
- Positional accuracy: how closely the mapped image and coordinates align with the real ground.
- Takeoff accuracy: whether the correct turf, bed, pavement, curb, or other feature was included and classified.
- Estimate accuracy: whether measured quantities were converted into realistic labor, material, equipment, overhead, and selling price.
RICS states directly that ground sampling distance is not synonymous with accuracy. Its aerial-survey standard uses independent ground control and verification points to check mapping accuracy. A landscape estimator does not need to commission a professional survey for every mowing quote, but the principle matters: a sharp image is not self-verifying.
Google Earth adds a practical warning. Its distance and area measurements may not be completely accurate, especially around 3D terrain and buildings, and they do not account for elevation changes. What can make an aerial landscape takeoff wrong?
Is the image current and on the right property?
Confirm the street address, parcel shape, adjacent landmarks, and image date before drawing. Turf Magazine’s contractor interviews identify stale imagery and wrong-address matches as recurring failure points. A new building, expanded parking lot, removed bed, pool, fence, or recent grading can make a clean old image commercially useless.
Treat a missing or unknown capture date as a risk flag. Use a current customer photo, street-level view, plan, or site visit to establish what changed.
Can the estimator see every service zone?
Tree canopy, building shadows, temporary vehicles, cloud, snow, and low contrast can hide edges. Leaf-off imagery may reveal boundaries that summer imagery conceals, but it can also show a site before recent work. Separate known, inferred, and hidden areas rather than tracing through an obstruction as if it were observed.
The takeoff also needs scope labels. “Green area” is not enough when mowing, fertilization, irrigation, mulch, pruning, and leaf cleanup use different production units. Record each included and excluded zone in terms that the crew and customer can recognize.
Does the map show what controls production?
Aerial area cannot establish every cost driver. Walk or otherwise verify:
- gates, access width, steps, walls, and material-staging space;
- slope, drainage, wet ground, and changes in elevation;
- obstacles, furniture, play equipment, irrigation heads, and utilities;
- curb, fence, bed, and hard-edge lengths;
- surface condition, vegetation density, and debris;
- whether islands and narrow strips require different equipment; and
- the exact service boundary when neighboring parcels or common areas meet.
Those observations belong beside the quantity. The landscaping estimate template shows how measured units continue into labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and markup. Aerial square footage is only the first input.
How should a landscaping company field-check a tool?
Use the same controlled properties and rules for every candidate. This is a desk-researched protocol; record your own observed results rather than calling the protocol a product test.
1. Build a four-property reference set
Choose properties already understood by the company:
- a simple, open lawn with clear hard edges;
- an irregular lawn with beds, islands, and canopy;

4. Compare area, perimeter, and price separately
For every required quantity calculate:
quantity difference % = |remote quantity - field reference| ÷ field reference × 100
Then run both quantities through the same price model:

Area and perimeter need separate checks. A polygon can have a similar area but a materially different edge length, changing trimming, edging, fencing, or bed work. Pass the tool only when every high-risk quantity and the resulting price remain within the company’s prewritten limits.
5. Walk the exceptions, not just the easy center
At the property, confirm identity and current conditions first. Normalize all options to the same month or bid season:
